How to Clean Your Makeup Sponge With Soap

A dirty makeup sponge not only harbors bacteria which is bad for the skin, but it also affects the makeup application. When it's covered in layers of your old foundation, the color of any products you're using can be affected. Using just plain water is not enough to thoroughly clean your makeup sponge. In other words, you need to use soap, facial cleanser, or shampoo to help wash the makeup sponge.

Step 1: Wet the Sponge

Start by thoroughly wetting your makeup sponge with clean water, ensuring it's soaked all the way through.

Step2: Apply Soap

Take an appropriate amount of soap and lather it in your hands. If you're using a bar soap, you can rub the sponge directly onto the soap. For liquid soap, simply pour it onto the damp sponge.

Step3:Gently Scrub

Gently massage and scrub the sponge, making sure the soapy solution reaches all areas of the sponge. For stubborn stains on the sponge, intensify the scrubbing.

Step 4: Rinse

Once you start to see that lather turn colors (the makeup coming off the sponge), rinse thoroughly. Take a look at your makeup sponge—if it still looks a little stained, you can repeat the process, since the formula is so gentle that you can even use it daily without doing any damage to your sponge.

Step 5: Let It Soak in Soapy Water (Optional)

If your sponge is extra gunked up, give it a little bubble bath. Fill up a cup with water and a few drops of the liquid soap and let the sponge soak in there for a minute or two. Then gently massage a little more of the cleanser in with your hand.

Step 6: Squeeze Out Excess Water and Dry

Gently squeeze the sponge to remove any excess water. Ensure you're not being too forceful to prevent damaging the sponge's material. Place the sponge in a well-ventilated area to dry. It's best to keep it out of direct sunlight to prevent any UV damage to the sponge.

It's indeed very necessary to clean the makeup sponge regularly. This not only ensures that your sponge doesn't become a breeding ground for bacteria but also ensures that your makeup always looks fresh and is applied at its best
